Because the neon light includes white, blue, infrared rays and ultraviolet rays, which are very bright, and harm cornea and iris to lead eye problems. Staring into high bright neon light, that can have the same effect on retina as using the sun's rays to make paper smoke or to start a fire using a magnifying glass, can cause permanent eye damage. Both ling time of exposure in neon light will cause eye damage, too.

Neon lighting consists of brightly glowing, electrified glass tubes or bulbs that contain rarefied neon or other gases. Neon tubes can be fabricated in curving artistic shapes, to form letters or pictures, which are mainly used to make dramatic, multicolored glowing signage for advertising. However, neon tubes can produce UV lights, which can hurt the back of your eyes, then the normal lights are not easy to be received. That is , neon lighting just like UV lights has a deep bad effect on the back of eyeballs and iris. That's why neon lighting will do harmful to eyes.
