Are conjunctivitis and pink eye the same thing?

I heard that pink eyes and conjunctivitis are caused by infection. So, is conjunctivitis the same as pink eyes? Or what are their differences?

    Pink eye is another name of conjunctivitis. They always refer to the same disease with different names. Conjunctivits is the acute inflammation of conjunctiva caused by bacterial or viral infection or allergic reaction. While pink eye is more often related to the infection forms of conjunctivitis. Conjunctiva is the transparent membrane covering on eyeball and inside of eyelids to protect eyes. Normally the blood vessels are invisible, but once they are irritated the would be dilated and visible. This is why patients with conjunctivitis have red eyes and people call it pink eye. To treat it, warm compress could always help. Have a try. There are three types of conjunctivitis, bacterial infection, viral infection or allergic reaction. Bacterial and viral infections are highly contagious. If you are diagnosed as bacterial or viral pink eye, I suggest you to stay at home for a few days.

    Well, conjunctivitis is pink eye and pink eye is conjunctivitis, they are the same thing. Just medically we called pink eye as conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the membrane covering the back of the eyelids and surface of the eyeball up to the cornea. It is easy to be caused by cats, dogs which are allergies and bacteria, virus and germs which cause eye infections. Conjunctivitis is a common diseases which do slightly harmful to human health, even it will be fine without any treatment option in seven days. However, conjunctivitis still needs to be taken good care of it. Conjunctivitis can spread person to person in public and you may also get worse when you stay out because of bacteria and virus in the air. So the best way to keep your health and heal your pink eye, you'd better stay at home and get away from public. That's also help with preventing pink eye from spreading and infecting to other people.

    There is substantial overlap. Pink eye is an infectious form of conjunctivitis, most often caused by viruses but also caused in some cases by bacteria. The most important form of non-infectious conjunctivitis is allergic, usually recognizable by mild redness, substantial itching and no discharge.
