How old can I wear contact lenses?

I am 12 years old. I want to buy a pair of contact lenses because I want to play football with my friends. My mum said that I am too young to wear contact lenses. Really? When can I get a pair of contact lenses?

Dear kid, contact lenses are very convenient and used by many people nowadays. Many infants and toddlers can wear them. So I think contacts lens wear is not a matter of age. But there are some teenagers who are not allowed to wear contacts for many reasons. Every case is different so we should treat with them differently. I think maybe your mum may think that contact lenses are easy to cause dry eye and eye infections so she doesn't allow you to wear them.

I think you can wear contact lenses. But there are a few things you should know before deciding to buy a pair of contact lenses. First, you'd better choose GP contact lenses for they can help reduce the progression of childhood myopia. Second, some kinds of contacts are better and healthier than others. For example, GP contact lenses can allow more oxygen to enter into the surface of our eyes and they will not absorb waters from our eyes. So I think this kind of contacts is better than soft contacts. Wearing eyeglasses during the sports may cause damage to the eyeglasses and further cause injury to our eyes. it is obvious that wearing contacts are more convenient and safer than wearing eyeglasses in sports.

dear kid, you can ask your mum to take you to see your eye care practitioner, he or she is the best person to help you decide whether contact lenses can be used to help correct your vision problems. We must wash our hands with soaps before wearing contacts. Many children who ignore the eye hygiene may get an eye infection. Maybe that's the reason why many parents will not allow their children to wear contacts.

Kid, you can wear contact lenses. There is no age limit in wearing contact lenses. you can consult any one of eye care professionals to see whether 12 years old children are able to wear contacts or not. I bet that they will tell you that you can wear contacts. But usually we may need to consider another factor before deciding to buy a pair of contact lenses. It is whether this child is responsible enough to wear or care for his or her contact lenses in every day.

Regarding to your question, actually, there is no age requirement on wearing contact lenses. Only if you can clean the contacts and protect your eyes dependently. Hope this helpful.

Contact lenses wear is not a matter of age. Many infants and toddlers wear them. Some teenagers should not. In other words, every case is different. The self-esteem of children and teens is closely related to their appearance. If they don't like the way they look in glasses, it can affect their personality, their performance in school, even their future. Once they start wearing contacts, many shy kids come out of their shell and begin participating more in life.
