Since the disease is mostly associated with diabetes, the most preventive way is to control the blood sugar level. Regular exercises and healthy diet are also important. In particular, diabetes sufferers are highly encouraged to take care of their diet which should be high in dietary fiber, especially soluble fiber, but low in fat. Some exports also encourage diabetes patients to reduce their intake of carbohydrates that have a high glycemic index. For early detection, it is a necessity to monitor the blood sugar level regularly.

The most effective way to prevent diabetic retinopathy is to keep your blood sugar at an even level. Fat people have a higher risk of getting diabetes, so it is better to control your weight. Take exercise regularly.

You should keep your blood sugar and high blood pressure in normal state because high blood sugar and high blood pressure can lead to diabetic retinopathy. If you have diabetes, you should have it treated. Doing this can prevent you getting diabetic retinopathy.
