Heredity: If your families have macular degeneration, you may higher risk of macular degeneration. Gender. It seems that women are more likely than men to suffer macular degeneration Smoking: People who smoke are more likely to get macular degeneration Obese: Overweight can also increase the chance of macular degeneration.

  Macular degeneration is often called AMD (age-related macular degeneration), so the greatest risk factor of AMD is age. People who are over 60 have a higher risk of developing AMD. Macular degeneration can also be caused by some other factors. For example, smoking can increase the risk of developing macular degeneration. And a family history of macular degeneration, long-term exposure to UV rays, obesity and high blood pressure are all the factors that can cause macular degeneration.
