Can eye infections cause blindness?

  Yes, eye infection can blindness.Eye infection refers to the inflammation of tissues of a body part causey by pathogen such as bacteria, virus, germs, fungus and parasites, etc invading ocular region. Ocular gonorrhea, also named as Gonococcal keratitis, is a common eye infection. When Neisseria gonorrhoeae invades the eyes and resides inside, it can multiply quickly due to the humidity inside the eyes. After it enters the conjunctival sac, it will cause pathological changes of the conjunctival sac, secreting massive suppuration, whose virulence will cause vertex coloring of corneal epithelium fluorescein. If eye infection aggravates, it will develop into corneal limbal ulcer, or even perforation, at last, one goes blind due to panophthalmia and leucoma.

  It is possible for the eye infection to cause the blindness on the precondition that the eye infection is serious. If it is just the symptom with no big serious symptom, it will be cured well. However, if it is the fungal keratitis of the eye infection, I'm afraid it is not very easy to heal. As we know, the fungal drugs are less on the market. And the sensitivity of the eyes is low which will cause the corneal ulcer that will be more and more severe. What's worse, some will appear punch. This is a very serious result. It will also leave corneal vitiligo which will relapse after the recovery. The worst situation is the blindness. At this time, you should accept the corneal transplantation.

In most cases, the leading causes of blindness include ocular complications of diabetes, macular degeneration, and traumatic injuries. Also, there are some other causes including infections, cataracts, glaucoma, and injury. As we know that when your eyes have been infected by something, it can be dangerous to have other eye diseases, such as the glaucoma. And then, if you do not treat them as soon as possible, it can weaken your eyes and lead to blindness. So, you should pay more attention to your eyes which are so sensitive that they can be infected easily.
