Is an annual eye exam mandatory in order to get a prescription for contact lenses?

Do they make you get an exam every year to get that prescription filled or does it matter? My husband had his eye examination about a 1 1/2 yrs ago. Just wondering if we can order him contacts without the exam, with it being that long.

Sweetie, if your husband has some vision problems, he is supposed to have an eye exam in every year. This can help diagnose some decrease on eyesight or potential eye diseases. Since he had his eye examination about 1 year ago, I think he may need to schedule another eye exam ASAP. Besides, eye exam for contacts are not exactly the same as an eye exam for glasses, the doctors will have your eyes measured to determine that which kind of contacts fit your eyes.

Dude, an annual eye exam is not mandatory. But to the people who have vision problems, an eye exam is essential for them to keep from eye problems and worse of eyesight. If there are great changes in their eyesight, they may need to update their prescription and buy a pair of new glasses to correct their vision problems immediately. But some people often take good care of their eyesight in their daily lives, so there won't be great changes in their eyesight, some of them may update their glasses every two or three years.

You can have an eye exam every two years. That doesn't matter. As long as you can maintain the health of your eyes and haven't suffered from any vision problems in your daily lives, you can get an eye exam whenever you want. But usually doctors will suggest the people who have vision problems to have an eye exam every year to see whether there is any need to update their glasses to help them see clearly.

Yeah, of course, you can. It seems that the prescription is valid for about two year. So you can still use your old prescription for your contact lenses.
