Can a blocked tear duct cause swelling?

  Swelling eyes can be caused by blocked tear duct, which will cause more serious inflammation and infection. These blockages can be caused by multiple factors. An infection in the tear ducts can cause a blockage that leads to swelling. That can cause a blockage of the tear ducts, which can lead to infection. Others reason for swelling eyes may be injuries to the bones of the nose or face, they can put pressure on the drainage system, changing its anatomy and possibly blocking the proper drainage of tears.

  Exactly speaking, it won't. But we cannot rule out special circumstances, such as your eyelids are broken or infection during your healing of blocked tear duct. Blocked tear duct is often noticeable on new born babies. Of course, adults also can suffer it. Blocked tear duct is pathway partial or complete blockage, which will automatic clean in 6 months for babies. While, adults need to receive medicine treatment. Blocked tear duct can cause other eye problems, but not all. Some eye problems occur just because your own basic issues, may be not blocked tear duct itself. Swelling eyes, or eyelids, is a very common symptom among many people. Allergies, conjunctivitis and blepharitis are the most common reasons for it, however, it still exists rare reasons. If you really got blocked tear duct, use a clean and warm washcloth to clean eyelids and have gently massage on the area, then take a treatment. Do not let your drops enter your eyes. Avoiding rubbing your eyes and to seek medical attention when you find something is wrong with your eyes.

  Yes, it is possible to suffer swelling eyes because of blocked tear duct. Tear ducts, in other words, are organs to secrete tear. In normal situation, tear ducts secrete 0.5ml to 0.6ml tears at most by daylight to moist eye conjunctiva and cornea. Whereas they will stop secreting at night. We should know that blocked tear duct, is a result of an improperly formed tear duct that obstructs the tear drainage system. Once there is a blocked tear duct, the duct cannot drain the tears, they have nowhere to go and may collect in the eye, leading to swelling certainly and other symptoms which include tears pooling in the eyes or draining down the eyelid and cheeks, discharge from the eye. To treat it, you can try breast milk which is often recommended by pediatricians as a treatment for blocked tear ducts. In that way, it can just relieve the symptoms and lead to recovery.
