Frame size is one of the most critical aspects of eyeglasses. Getting a pair of comfortable and fit eyeglasses requires highly a careful consideration of the frame size. Most people know that the frame shape should contrast with the wearer’s face shape. Evaluating the frame size, the guideline is to achieve a balanced effect between it and the user’s face size. These two parts should be approximately in scale. But there may be a misunderstanding of this factor. It is widely said that people with a large face will go better with a big pair of glasses. And small faces are encouraged to select a small frame. Even if small spectacles tend to gain popularity, the truth of this rule is never changed. Nevertheless, big and small glasses commonly discussed by folks actually focus on the overall size of the lenses. Big lenses lead to glasses with a large effect. There are actually other details associated with glasses sizes. A simple point is that the overall size of the lenses is determined by both the length and width.

The preference for small or large glasses stated before is only dependent on personal tastes. This is not the standard or formal glasses sizes which should be strictly decided according to the wearer’s facial measurements. Some attentive eyeglass users may notice the size numbers inside a frame temple. But few people may know exactly their meanings. In regular, there are three numbers, which are got from standardized size measurements. Eyewear manufacturers and optical personnel then use these numbers to fit eyeglasses properly for individual patients.

The first number indicates the size of the lenses, or exactly the width of the lenses. This figure can range from 44 to 52. The second number standards for the bridge size or width. This measurement helps in fitting the frame comfortably on the wearer’s nose. And the third number represents the temple length. All these numbers are stated in millimeter. Eye doctors and opticians always require customers to provide exact glasses sizes in these three aspects. The reason is that each person has unique facial features and sizes. And eyeglass buyers should carry out related measurements if they buy glasses online.
