How long does it take to get used to hard lens?
It does feel uncomfortable when you first wear hard contacts. You can try to increase the wearing time like 15 or 30 mimutes or day by day, but don't make big jumps, then you should wear them longer.
Are there extended wear contacts for astigmatism?
Yes. There are a wide variety of contact lenses available for astigmatism, including hard, soft and extended wear. You can go to your nearby optical store to ask. But extended contacts are not always safe to wear although they are designed for long time wearing.
Is it normal for astigmatism contact lenses harder in the middle than the outsides?
YES, it is just that type. Lenses for astigmatism ( toric lenses) are all like that. I think they are more easy to wear than regular soft contacts as they are harder in the middle part.
Can I buy contact lenses for an astigmatism over the counter?
It is against the law to sell you contacts without doctor's prescription and also there is no over the counter contact lenses. All prescription contact lenses are made based on your prescription.
What is the ophthalmoscope used for in an eye exam?
Ophthalmoscopy is done as part of a routine physical or complete eye examination. It is used to detect and evaluate symptoms of retinal detachment or eye diseases such as glaucoma. In patients with headaches, the finding of swollen optic discs, or papilledema, on ophthalmoscopy is a key sign, as this indicates raised intracranial pressure (ICP) which could be due to hydrocephalus, benign intracranial hypertension (aka pseudotumor cerebri) or brain tumor, amongst other conditions. Cupped optic discs are seen in glaucoma. In patients with diabetes mellitus, regular ophthalmoscopic eye examinations (once every 6 months to 1 year) are important to screen for diabetic retinopathy as visual loss due to diabetes can be prevented by retinal laser treatment if retinopathy is spotted early. Why does eating carrots improve night vision?
Rhodopsin is important in color detection. Light-sensitive, purple-red organic pigment contained in the rod cells of the retina that allows the eye to see in black and white in dim light. It is composed of opsin, a protein, linked to retinal, a conjugated molecule (see conjugation) formed from vitamin A. So eating carrots which are high in vitamin A can help improve night vision. source? http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_our_eyes_see_color#ixzz1vUUWr0S5
What can I do to keep my eyesight from getting worse?
The most important thing you should do is to avoid too much close work such as playing computer or reading. Don't always stay up late and do exercise regularly to keep a healthy body. Your overall health is also important to maintain your vision.
