In the Kensington, optometrists can be found in the vicinity of a chain optical retail store, or in an independent optometrist's office. Optometrists are trained to address both vision refractive errors and eye health. Many optometrists sell high-end eyeglasses and contact lenses in their practices with the most professional possible services in addition to performing eye exams and writing prescriptions. • Actually the PD has nothing to do with eye exam and it is not required in the US or Canada either. The doctor would only measure it if you are going to buy glasses from them at the same time. You can aslo measure you PD by yourself at home with a ruler and a mirror.

  • Yellow tinted sunglasses can improve the light contrast to make things more clear, so they are much useful in cloudy days or at night. But it is not a good choice to wear them in sunny days as they could make the lights more glaring. You may choose polarized lens which can reduce glare for cycling.

However, most people have different unique prescription. Some people will even have sore eyes and dizziness when they wear non prescription reading glasses for a long time. Although they are much cheaper and can be purchased easily, it is better and more safe to have your eyes examined and wear prescription one.

  • The doctor can determine if you are short sighted by asking you to read the certain row on the letter chart. Most nearsighted people can't read the small letters at the bottom of the chart but farsighted people can. Also the optometrist will also ask the patient to read something on a piece of paper. If you need the paper to be further away to be able to read it, then you are farsighted.

  • The black spots in front of your eyes are possibly floaters. In most case they are harmless and won't affect your vision. But they are really annoying. The best way to treat it is ignoring them!
