    If you can see clearly while reading, you don't have to wear reading glasses, otherwise the reading glasses can cause eye strain. If you read a lot , you can stop reading and relax your eyes after a long reading, or you can do some eye exercises to relieve your eye strain.

    I guess you are meaning make your glasses and the cheap reading glasses you bought in the market into one lens ? There is no way to work on the original lenses ,and you need to get a new pair of bifocal glasses . The upper part is for close work such as sewing and the lower part is for regular vision.

    people usually start need reading glasses around fortys.Some are younger, some are older. If you are only going to use your glasses "as needed" for reading, etc., then the drugstore/discount store types should be fine for you. However, if you are going to be wearing them for extended periods then it is worth it to get an eye exam and some good prescription lenses. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion. I got progressives because I was sick of taking them on and off constantly. Bifocals would work too.
