The company claims that these new Definity lenses provide a wider view of distance vision as well as a better aligned intermediate vision. Currently these lenses are available in clear, Transitions IV photochromic gray or brown.

One lens style called Definity Fairway Transitions SolFx lenses has been designed particularly for golfers. Essilor has created Definity lenses using Dual Add 2.0 Technology, which brings a fourth zone for clear vision when the golfer looks down. In fact, Definity Fairway Transitions SolFx lenses are the combination of Definity lens from Essilor and the SolFx sunglass lens technology from Transitions Optical. The most outstanding feature of Transitions lenses is that they can adjust their degrees of darkness in accordance to varying outside light conditions automatically. These lenses can also improve contrast and depth perception, which is helpful for golfing. Golfers tested with Definity Fairway Transitions SolFx lenses report less peripheral distortion, a 30% wider intermediate zone and smoother transition.

Outfitter 24 Safety Glasses with improved depth perception

Another type of photochromic lenses introduced by Global Vision is available now. Company officials say that their Outfitter 24 Safety Glasses can provide darker shading than conventional polycarbonate lenses. In darker conditions, this new type of photochromic lenses lightens to yellow automatically. Outfitter 24 Safety Glasses are still advocated to offer improved depth perception on overcast days.

Similar to photochromic lenses to some degree, electro-chromic lenses developed by researchers from University of Washington are claimed to be more active and intelligent. Based on variations in electronic currents, these new lenses can change shading or coloring in varying light conditions.
