What are the side effects of putting honey in your eyes?

This morning, my son happened to get honey into his eyes by accident. Do I need to take him to the hospital right away? Can I just take some home remedies? Will that be bad for his eyes?

Calm yourself down firstly. The average pH of honey is 3.9, but it can range from 3.4 to 6.1 according to the type of honey, so honey is faintly acid. The moment your son got honey into his eyes could make his eyes discomfort, but after rinsing with clean water, he would feel much better. Or you can drip some eye drops to his eyes. If you are too worried and anxious, you can take him to hospital.

In your case, you should use clean anf flowing water to wash clean the honey out of your son's eyes. Then use a piece of clean towel or facial tissues to wipe dry his eye and face. Since there are not harmful chemicals contained in honey except for some suger, vitamins, minerals and very few proteins, therefore, it will not do much harm to the eyes. But it certainly will make the eyes feel quite uncomfortable if it gets into the eyes. If your son feels fine after taking the above measures, then you do not have to worry too much about it. Just let your son have a good rest and do not use the eyes too much. But if your son still feels uncomfortable in the eyes, then you should take him to the hospital for professional examination and correspondent treatment.
