Cataracts are cloudy areas in the lens inside the eye-which is normally clear.cataracts can develop in one or both eyes. If they develop in both eyes, one will be more severely affected than the other, A normally clear lens allows light to pass through to the back of the eye,so that the patient can see well defined images. If a part of the lens becomes opaque light does not pass through easily and the patient's vision becomes blurry like looking through cloudy water or a fogged up window.the more opaque the lens becomes.the worse the person's vision will be.

Cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens. When we look at something, light rays travel into our eye through the pupil and are focused through the lens onto the retina, a layer of light-sensitive cells at the back of the eye. The lens must be clear in order to focus light properly onto the retina. If the lens has become cloudy, this is called a cataract.

A cataract is when the lens of an eye becomes cloudy and affects vision. Cataracts most commonly occur in older people and develop gradually. Cataracts can usually be treated with a routine day case operation where the cloudy lens is removed and is replaced with an artificial plastic lens. However, in developing countries where treatment is not available, cataracts are a major cause of blindness.
