Once you've find the low cost eye exam, you need to make sure the following kind of services should be included. A review of your personal and family medical history. An evaluation of your distance and near vision with an eye chart. An evaluation for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. An observation of your eyes' ability to work well together as a team. An eye pressure test and examination of your optic nerve to rule out glaucoma. An examination of the interior of your eyes to make sure you do not have other eye problems such as cataracts or macular degeneration.

On usual, a low cost exam include two parts in the whole examination, one is visual acuity tests. They usually are performed using a projected eye chart to measure your distance visual acuity and a small, hand-held acuity chart to measure your near vision. the other one is cover test, it is the simplest and most common. During a cover test, your eye doctor will have you focus on a small object across the room and then he or she will cover each of your eyes alternately while you stare at the target. While doing this, your eye doctor will assess whether the uncovered eye must move to pick up the fixation target, which could indicate strabismus or a more subtle binocular vision problem that could cause eye strain or amblyopia ("lazy eye"). The test is then repeated up close.
