As we know, bifocal contact lenses are designed to people with presbyopia and need devices to help them see both far and near subjects. But bifocal lenses have two separate prescriptions that you may have difficulty with your depth perception. It is problematic if you engage in some sports activities. Besides, you may feel eyestrain as you attempt to refocus your vision when you want to see different distance vision.

One of the most common disadvantages of bifocal contact lenses is that it is difficult to get used to them. Bifocal contact lenses have two parts of different prescriptions. The upper part of the lens is used to view distance and the lower part of the lens is used to view close-up objects. Some people may get some discomfort like eye irritation and blurry vision when they start to wear bifocal contact lenses for the first time. Moreover, not everyone are suitable for bifocal contact lenses. Therefore you should go to see a doctor to have your eyes checked and see whether you are suitable for bifocal contact lenses.

The bifocal contact lenses were developed for presbyopia that the users typically above 40, and can’t see an object up close or far away. Hence, the bifocal contact lenses combine two prescriptions (myopia and presbyopia) into one lens. However, it is not suitable for everybody to wear, especially people who have large pupils, a strong contact lens prescription or astigmatism may not be able to wear them. As mentioned above, the bifocal contact lenses have two prescriptions without consideration of depth perception. So it is not useful when you are driving or doing sports. In addition, the cost is higher than the normal bifocal contact glasses. And it takes time to adjust the bifocal contact lenses to make they work.
