Onion contains a volatile substance which can irritate your eyes, having tears is a protective reaction to this substance. It has no harm to your eyes, but has a certain function of detoxifying and cleaning. I can recommend you some suggestions to prevent crying: first, before cutting onions, you can put knife in cold water for a while, and then cut the onion. Second, cut the onion into halves, put them in cold water for a while, and then cut it to small pieces. Third, put the onion into warm water for three minutes, and then cut.

Some people think cutting onions is good for eyes because it can cause your eyes tearing. The tear can help get the dirt or dust out of your eyes, thus it can help cleanse the eyes. But it has nothing to do with the eyesight. However, there are some people who think cutting onions is not good for eyes because it can cause irritation, swelling or redness in the eyes. So people should cut onions under water.

To some extent, yes. Because Onions contain a volatile substance. When you cut Onions, they will stimulate your eyes, and your eyes protect themselves instinctively and begin to cry. Therefore, cutting Onions is not harmful for body but to the eyes has certain good effect. But the taste of onion is really stimulating, you can avoid by this: putting the chopper in cold water before cutting onions for a while, or putting the onion into cold water for few minutes after cutting Onions in half.

it doesn't matter. There is some volatile in onions, tears is the protection to this volatile. If it is bad to eyes, there will not so many people cut unions. And you don't want tears, you can put on muzzle when you cut onions, or wet the knife before you cut onions, then you won't cry. hope it helps. and unions are good for health.

Yes, it would. As we all known, vegetable and fruit are good for people's health, including eye vision. Onion is the Vegetable Queen, which includes a large number of Ca, Fe, vitamin B1, C and other nutrition. It's helpful to decrease blood pressure and blood lipids, even it can decrease or avoid career. Normally, the adult should eat 50 to 80 grams of onion to keep healthy. In addition, onion has a kind of volatile matter, when you are cutting an onion, it would stimulate your eyes so that you would drop tears to rewet eyes. However, you should wash your eyes with cold water after tearing a short period.

I don't think it will good to your eyes because cut onions make my eyes feel painful and tearing. I know that tear is the natural water to benefit our eyes. If the smell of onions make you tearing, it means your eyes are healthy because it is react properly. But cutting onions itself is not a healthy way. You won't getting any eye benefit from cutting onions.

I used to suffer from these tears each time I was cooking and like the post has said, tears are regulated by the lachrymal gland which is done by the brain when there is an irritant in the eye.Since I started using the one of the onions chopper from Onion Chopper, I have since had some peace.
