It is possible to go blind from diabetes if you don't control the rise of the blood. You have to have uncontrolled blood sugars for a long period of time for diabetes to cause you to go blind. The T1 in your body will go on so quickly. When my sister was diagnosed with T1, she told me that she didn't have to start being checked for long term and it becomes into complications. After 5 years, her eye vision will be so weak. The diabetes levels can damage blood vessels in the eyes and can lead to the growth of new blood vessels there. These new blood vessels are not as strong and can leak or burst. At last, it will come into the damage of the eyes. It will gradually be damaged through the disease. Thus, you'd better go to see the doctor and have the full check on the eyes quickly.

Definitely yes! It is possible to go blind because of diabetes. Diabetes is caused by the decreased insulin production or inadequate insulin to consume glucose in blood. The high level of blood sugar will cause cataract, glaucoma and retinopathy. All of the three types of eye complications caused by diabetes can affect vision in different way, but they all will lead to blindness finally without proper and timely treatment. It is hard to say how long it takes to go blind from diabetes. The time varies from case to case. The longer time you have diabetes, the higher risk you might develop these eye complications. No matter how and when you developed cataract, glaucoma or retinopathy, you should go to visit doctor for professional suggestion. Fairly speaking, diabetes impacts many organ functions of our body. So it is very important to control blood sugar within normal standard. Visit doctor regularly to ensure no other serious complications caused.
