Are progressive glasses lenses worth the money?

My friend recommend me buy progressive eyeglasses lenses. He said it is more convenient than carrying two or more pairs of eyeglasses at a time. But when i search online, i find progressive eyeglasses lenses are more expensive than other regular glasses lenses. So, i wonder if progressive lenses are worthy the money. What's your opinion?
