Similar to the concept of rust where iron turns brownish when it meets air and water. Same goes to the eyeglasses frame, where some metal parts could get rusty too. Glasses frame is usually made of a type of copper called monel. Monel is a table metal and unreactive towards a lot of chemicals. Thus, cleaning is very important.
