How does an eye doctor check for double visions?

I often can't see clearly and always see two images of a single thing.Does that indicate I have got the double vision? How could the doctor check this?

An doctor will use a cover test, visual acuity test, vergence test, or suppression test to check for double visions. Actually it's not so exactly, they will combine with what you say to tell whether you have double vision . A doctor cannot "see" if you are seeing double. The double vision occurs in your brain where vision is processed.
