And rheumatoid arthritis will result in glaucoma which is a condition that can cause blindness. Besides, long-term use of corticosteroid medications often prescribed to treat rheumatoid arthritis may lead to cataracts. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, ask your doctor about the need for regular eye exams. Early treatment can help prevent vision-threatening complications.   Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic inflammatory disorder, which is a chronic disease that may affect many tissues and organs, but principally attacks flexible joints. Joint inflammation is characterized by redness, warmth, swelling, and pain within the joint. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include joint pain and swelling, stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting for long periods and fatigue. Rheumatoid arthritis is possible to cause eye pain and affect our eyes. As long as the immune system is triggered, immune cells migrate from the blood into the joints and joint-lining tissue. The inflammatory substances will cause irritation, wearing down of cartilage , and swelling and inflammation of the joint lining. That is, the blood and bones around eyes are also easy to be damaged by rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis mainly do harm to the synovium of joint and may later spread to cartilago articularis, bone tissue, articular ligament as well as muscle tendon, but in some cases eyes and connective tissue can also be affected to present inflammations. 10% to 35% of the people who have got rheumatoid arthritis suffer from dry conjunctiva and cornea, which is the most common symptoms of the complications of rheumatoid arthritis. People with these symptoms will feel their eyes burning, sense of foreign objects, lack of tears and fearful of light, and so on. Some people with rheumatoid arthritis can also have got episcleritis which present as red eyes and eye pains. These kinds of pathological changes are all caused by vasculitis which root in rheumatoid factors and their immune complexes. People who have both rheumatoid arthritis and the above mentioned symptoms should go to the doctor's as soon as possible for in-time examination and treatment in case that the conditions get worse.
