Is There Any Side Effect of PRK Surgery?

I accidentally rubbed my eyes after PRK, I'm worried. I had my PRK surgery 2 and a half days ago and I accidentally without knowingly rubbed my eyes when I was wiping off water off my face after taking a shower after, I experienced blurriness, pain and sandy feeling in my eyes after that. Would it have a long term effect in my vision and healing process on the surgery? thanks!

Usually we will not be allowed to take a shower after any kind of eye surgeries with a week. But we can have bath for instead. However you had the surgery for such a long period, your blurred vision may not be caused by taking a shower. I think maybe the bacteria in the water caused an eye infection. You can apply some artificial tears to lubricate your eyes and then see an eye doctor immediately.

Dear friend, some eye surgeries do have some side effect as other surgeries do. But I think your blurred vision and pain eye are not caused by side effect. They may caused by an infection. We often rub our eyes but this action will not do great damages to our eyes as long as you do not rub eyes with dirty hands. So I think the shampoo or water (with bacteria) will lead to an eye infection and irritated your eyes and further lead to an eye infection.

PRK stands for Photorefractive keratectomy. This process is similar to the Lasik procedure, but the laser is used to permanently change the shape of the anterior cornea. The outer layer of the cornea is removed before the reshaping takes place, instead of the flap being lifted and replaced. The outer layer of the cornea will repair itself, but this is a longer healing process than a flap being healed back into place. PRK avoids the possible dislocation of corneal flaps which may occur with Lasik surgery. However it is a more painful procedure and recovery is generally slower.
