You can prevent macular degeneration by reducing Refined Carbs in Your Diet. A study shows that high refined carbohydrates in diet can increase the risk of AMD. Those diets with a high glycemic index may cause a rapid increase in blood sugar and insulin release. Otherwise, we should have low glycemic index foods such as fruits, spaghetti, brown rice, apple juice or carrot juice.

You can prevent macular degeneration by eating more fish. Studies have shown that fish can help prevent macular degeneration. Compared with the people who have least amount of fish consumption, the people who have highest levels of fish consumption are 45 percent less likely to have macular degeneration. You also need to have regular exams of your whole body. Have your blood pressure controlled is also very important for macular degeneration prevention.

Nutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin help prevent macular degeneration. Choose a healthy diet that's full of a variety of fruits, vegetables and leafy greens. These foods contain antioxidant vitamins that may reduce your risk of developing dry macular degeneration. Eating kale, spinach, broccoli, peas and other vegetables, which have high levels of antioxidants, including lutein and zeaxanthin, may also reduce the risk of macular degeneration.
