Of course wearing sunglasses or hat is very important when we expose to the sun. Have you heard that our eyes can be damaged by the UV rays from the sun? We may develop cataract and other kinds of eye disease in our later life if we expose our bare eyes to the sun for a long time. Sunglasses can block at least 98% UV rays for us. And some good sunglasses can block UV rays completely.

Both hat and sunglasses can protect our eyes from the sun. But they may have different functions. Hats can shelter our eyes from the harsh sunlight, while they can't block the harmful UV rays from the sun. And we know that subjects can reflect the light and lead to glare. The smooth surface of road and water often have intense glare which can affect our vision. I think a hat can't help reduce the glare at this moment but a pair of sunglasses can do that for us.

A pair of polarized sunglasses can protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays from the sun as well as make your eyes feel more comfortable when you are in the outside. I think a hat can't do that for you. But if you don't have anything to shelter your eyes from the sun, a hat can help a little. At least it can shelter the harsh sunlight . But you'd better buy a pair of sunglasses other than buy a hat to protect your eyes. Hope this helped!
