Onion contains a kind of enzyme that would be releases as gas when cutting it. When it reaches your eye area, it would turns into a form of sulfuric acid to cause you crying. In order to avoid that happens again, you need to do something to stop the enzyme from reaching your eyes. One easy way is cutting the onion under the water, which would stop all irritating enzyme because the gas would dissolve into water. Or you can chill the onion in the freezer for one day before cutting it. On the other side, you can use a sharp knife to damage less plant cells to result in reduced amount of gas released into the air.

Yes there are some skills that you can learn to avoid the"crying"while cutting onion. First, do not cut through the center of the onion, but extract the "core". Second, you can use a fan to blow the gases away from you. You could also wear. Third, you can wear goggles, leave them on for a while until the gas dissipates from the area. Fourth, you cut a lemon in half and put the fresh lemon on both sides of the blade. At last, once they start burning a little you can stick your head in the freezer for a minute and put your head out. Have a try and good luck!

Well, as you can see, onion and some other vegetables such as chili, are irritate to your eyes and could cause some uncomfortable feelings. So, you need to be extremely careful, may glasses will be your shield. However, if some onion get into your eyes, you need Saline to wash them out, then use some eye drops to relieve the pain. But if this does not help, turn to professional treatment.
