Depth perception is the innate ability of the human eye to see in three dimensions. People have a stereoscopic vision. Each eye sees a different image and the brain processes the images and incorporates the two images into the image eventually seen by the brain. How well both eyes function independently and how well they function together to decode the images decide the eye depth perception. Depth perception is vital for our survival and plays an important role in driving, sewing, threading a needle, watching 3D movies, walking on uneven ground and other activities that require depth acuity.

Usually the alcohol will cause the depth perception which is innate. Actually the extreme cold or warm will also cause the depth perception. The stimulation from the outside environment will cause the depth perception. You need to pay attention to this. The depth perception will affect the visual nerves which you need to protect.

There is scientific research indicating that the depth perception is innate. For things far away from us, we use monocular cues which need one eye. For things close to us, we use monocular cues and binocular cues which need both two eyes. A research shows that two-month-old baby can perceive depth. Before that, the babies cannot do that, for they are unable to use their binocular depth cues which are the key in depth perception. Binocular cues are working in the process of perceiving depth, which means the use of both eyes is required. One cue is used for getting feedback of the distance, and the other is engaged in retinal disparity. The tiny difference in the image seen by each eye provides further information of the depth. So everyone is born with depth perception.
