Do peolpe have Diabetes and macular degeneration still need to have a dilated eye exam?

Is it true that people have diabetic don't need to have a dilated eye exam because they have macular degeneration? Why and why not?

    It is not true . People with diabetes should have annual dilated eye examinations.It is critical for all adults to have regular dilated eye exams because there often are no early warning signs to indicate the development of retinopathy or age-related macular degeneration. It is also a good idea for people with chronic eye diseases to be on the lookout for any new symptoms in their overall health and to talk to their doctor if they have specific concerns about their heart health. source:http://www.sharecare.com/question/when-to-have-eye-exams
