Eye stye is usually caused by infection, poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, lack of hygiene or rubbing of the eyes. It may cause a red bump underneath the lid with only generalized redness and swelling visible on the outside. Normally, it will last 7 to 10 days without treatment, and some treatment or medicine will speed up the healing process. The best home treatment is to dip a piece of soft cloth into warm tea and drape it on your face for 5 minutes. You may also ask the doctor for some medicine like moxifloxacin and antibiotic. Try to avoid eye makeup or wearing contact lenses until it is cured.

There are two kinds of eye sty: First, it is external sty, which refers to acute inflammation of the sebaceous glands in the root of lash or hair follicle. It is characterized by partial redness, pain, and having a small induration. If it is serious, the entire eyelid will swell. A few days later, the root of hair follicle will have yellow pus, and it will break soon, after the pus get out, the symptoms will disappear. Second, it is internal sty, which refers to the acute suppurative inflammation of the meibomian gland in the eyelid. The symptom is similar with external sty. But because the inflammation is in the solid meibomian organization, so it is very painful, and will last for a long time. When the yellow pus appears in the eyelid and membrane surface, it will break soon, after the pus get out, the symptoms will disappear. You should pay attention to eye health, do not touch sick position, in order to avoid infection. You can use some eye drops or eye oinment with the function of anti-inflammatory and sterilization, and also have some oral antibiotics.
